Asia Data Destruction At The Digital Future Forum

Confluences venture team ASIA DATA DESTRUCTION (ADD) participated at the Digital Future Forum organised on Tuesday January 30th 2024 by EuroCham's Digital & Technology Committee Cambodia. 

The forum focused especially on building the digital foundations of tomorrow, and among the topics presented were: digital skills development, legal updates, and data protection strategies of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, data protection in ASEAN and regulatory frameworks governing cybercrime and data protection.  

Mr. Sébastien UNG, the country director of ADD for Cambodia, presented on the importance of data protection (how do hackers proceed, what consequences face victims of data breach, and what solutions organisations can implement to protect themselves) and presented a data protection regulation comparison between five Asian countries: Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia. He highlighted the legal framework, the international alignment, and the cultural and societal challenges faced.  

Mr. Isato BISTA, Business development manager for ADD in Thailand, made the trip to Cambodia to attend the event, and was a panelist as part of a group discussing the regulatory framework in Cambodia: cybercrime, data protection and cyber defense. This discussion included a comparison between the existing laws in Vietnam and Thailand. 

The Secretary of State, His Excellency Dr. Kong Phallack at the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, reported on the progress of the new law ratification which should be completed by the end of 2024.

ADD was able to continue its efforts in educating the Cambodian market, while the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) rules are still under development.

Confluences Access also had one of its partners participate at the same forum, with Mr. Bruno SIVANANDAN, from Vietnam-based company Cycle, attending.
