Confluences Supports Mekong Region Tourism Development

July 31, 2023
Ms. Dara N. VAN with Mrs. Catherine GERMIER HAMEL, CEO - Destination Mekong

Destination Mekong (DM) is a membership-based destination management and marketing organisation (DMO) that promotes sustainable and inclusive tourism ecosystems that create value for the Mekong region.

Having established a public-private partnership framework in the region, Destination Mekong has been designing and implementing value-added programs and solutions focusing on sustainability, capacity-building, branding, marketing, and networking. Destination Mekong is a non-profit incorporated as a private company in Singapore and Phnom-Penh; its Cambodian office is based at Confluences headquarters.

DM held its second Annual General Meeting on 4th July 2023 which was an opportunity to remind its members of the creative partnerships and collaborations developed over the past year. These included the series of multi-stakeholder events such as the Destination Mekong Summit in December 2022, Destination Siem Reap, a program of webinars and workshops organised for members.

"Our focus is to increase the value and benefits we offer to our members through building their capacity and providing them with better access to markets, networks, tools, technologies, funding, and business opportunities, together with our partners. We are willing to facilitate an innovative platform to promote sustainable and inclusive tourism ecosystems creating value for all involved players in the Mekong region. We will also create local chapters to engage with professionals and businesses at a grassroots level” from Mrs. Catherine GERMIER HAMEL, Chief Executive Officer at Destination Mekong.

At the AGM, the executive board of DM was renewed with new members from prestigious institutions such as the WWF (World Wildlife Fund), GIZ (Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) and ATTA (Adventure Travel Trade Association), as well as private companies. Confluences renewed its support to the DM initiative and is even engaging more efforts as our Business Development and MarCom Manager Ms. Dara N. VAN now has a seat as a new DM executive board member.

"This is part of Confluences DNA - to support projects which could help develop quality business opportunities in Cambodia and the Mekong region. In doing so, our leaders have always been actively engaged in relevant initiatives, and I'm proud to take on this new role. Confluences has been active in the tourism sector for years and through different projects and means, and yes we are eyeing beyond Cambodia as the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) is our natural playground" - Ms. Dara N. VAN, the Business Development & MarCom Manager at Confluences.

Since its inception in 2015, Confluences has been active in many tourism-oriented projects, including several consulting studies for the Cambodian tourism authorities. Through our Ventures initiatives, Confluences is the leading partner that brought e-ticketing solution providers Last2Ticket and Last2Ticket Asia to the Cambodian market. We have also developed strong relationships with key tourism stakeholders such as the Royal Ballet of Cambodia and other edutainment providers.

Currently, we are working on building the first immersive 3D museum dedicated to Khmer heritage in Siem Reap. The project is slated to open in 2024, and we hope to deploy similar projects in neighbouring countries in the near future. We look forward to continuing to drive change and championing sustainable and inclusive tourism ecosystems in the GMS.
