Isabel LECÉA SAN ROMÁN, International Development Director at Memorist shared that each encounter with Cambodia has deepened their respect for the country’s living heritage. She noted that beyond the remarkable collections at the SOSORO Museum, the team was especially inspired by the professionals’ dedication to preserving and transmitting Cambodia’s memory. She emphasized that this first workshop in Cambodia represents an important step for both Memorist and La Reliure du Limousin as they collaborate with Cambodian partners to share expertise, train local teams, and contribute humbly to safeguarding these heritage treasures for future generations.

The SOSORO Museum (Preah Srey Içanavarman Museum of Economy and Money) by the National Bank of Cambodia is a modern museum dedicated to promoting economic literacy and preserving Cambodia’s rich financial history over the past 2,000 years, through historical artifacts and modern technology like virtual tours, video, and interactive games.
SOSORO Museum Co-Director Blaise KILIAN highlighted the museum's mission, recalling that “A museum is an institution that research, collects, conserves, interprets, and exhibits both tangible and intangible heritage, for the benefit of society, according to the definition adopted by the International Council of Museums (ICOM).” He further noted the responsibility “to constantly strengthen our capacity to conserve objects such as ancient coins, banknotes, books, maps and other items that constitute our collection, in order to fulfill our mission in the best possible way.”

Echoing SOSORO's commitment to strengthening conservation capacity, trainer and International Development Project Manager at La Reliure du Limousin, Alexandra CUEILLE shared her impression of the museum team’s dedication: "The conservation of Cambodian heritage has a bright future ahead, as evidenced by the deep interest and dedication shown by the SOSORO team during this workshop. As a training centre, Memorist is proud to have trained this new generation, who now hold all the keys to ensuring that Cambodia’s unique heritage continues to educate and inspire visitors for years to come.”

Prior to this workshop, Confluences had supported Memorist through three trade missions in Cambodia since 2023, helping them connect with local heritage and conservation community and discuss potential projects. This time they came back to Cambodia for their 4th visit, not to discuss but to run their first workshop in Cambodia.
For Confluences as a market access catalyst, success is when the businesses that we help, open doors to something meaningful, just like how Memorist and SOSORO came together to enhance local capacity and create value for our Cambodian community.
