Memorist’s third mission to Cambodia involved ongoing dialogues with both the public and private sectors. Facilitated by Confluences' Access team, this visit laid the groundwork for future heritage projects.
Earlier in June, our partner Memorist, a specialist in heritage restoration and conservation, concluded its third strategic visit to Cambodia. Led by Ms. Isabel LECÉA SAN ROMÁN, International Development Director of Memorist, and supported by Confluences' Access team, the mission included 11 high-level meetings. Discussions with key public institutions—such as the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, and the SOSORO Museum—focused on following up on project leads and defining project scopes. Engagements with private groups and companies such as Artisans Angkor and Sokimex Investment group focused on presenting Memorist’s innovative conservation techniques and exploring potential projects and partnerships.
"Memorist's third mission to Cambodia represents a significant step forward in our shared commitment to bring our partner's advanced technology to preserve the country's rich cultural heritage in the best conditions. Through these discussions, we are laying the foundation for projects that will safeguard Cambodia's historical treasures, expand their cultural reach, and pass this legacy on to future generations and visitors to the Kingdom." commented Cheathida CHORT, Market Access Analyst, Confluences Access.
While ongoing discussions will determine specific project commitments, the mission has established clear pathways for future initiatives. These include the digitization and conservation of a variety of documents —such as books, maps, papers, and others —, as well as the organization of a training workshop for local teams to develop restoration and conservation techniques. We hope to see some of these projects materialize by the end of this year, with the ambition to launch a major initiative on the archives of the French Protectorate by 2026.
"I would like to thank Confluences and Cheathida Chort for organizing such an engaging agenda. The genuine interest shown by Cambodian institutions and private stakeholders in safeguarding and promoting heritage signals strong momentum. With the expertise of Memorist, we are proud to contribute to this shared goal by bringing French heritage excellence to the discussion. We are excited about the next steps in this meaningful journey!" shared Ms. Isabel LECÉA SAN ROMÁN as the mission concluded.
